Earlier this year, we announced Thousand's commitments and progress toward increasing our company's diversity, now and in the future.
We know that we can't end systemic racism in a day, and this is just the first step in a long journey. We're committed to doing the work and taking that journey day by day, sharing our ongoing progress with you all.
Here are the commitments we made, and some updates on what we've done over the past few months.
DONATION MATCHING
Moving forward, Thousand is expanding our Thousand Gives donation program. Every year, we give $1000 to each of our employees to donate to the organization of their choice. In the past, these donations have been focused on sustainability initiatives through our partnership with 1% for the Planet. From now on, we'll open the Thousand Gives benefitting organizations to include diversity and equity-focused non-profits, in addition to sustainability causes.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION (DEI) TRAINING
We hosted a 6-week book club focused on the book Stamped by Ibram X. Kendi, with Thousand providing the book to any team members who requested.
We also invested in continued DEI training and education for our entire team. We enrolled in Brit Barron's online course, Understanding Racism 101, with mandatory participation for all team members.
We continue to participate in all-team sessions to examine the history of racism; to discuss lessons learned about system racism; and to create tactical action plans to incorporate anti-racism into our personal and professional lives.
COMPANY DEI AUDIT
COMPANY POLICIES
As of this year, we've also made Juneteenth (June 19th) an official paid holiday for Thousand, in order to give our team the time and space to reflect upon and learn more about America's past and how to be more actively anti-racist moving forward.
Moving forward, we're continuing to assess how we can implement policies that increase diversity into the structure of our business.
